Approx 04.2001 whilst living and working in Germany I took a 2 1/2 hr test ride on the BMW C1 at Germersheim in Rheinland Pfalz.
I specified that the test ride would only be taken during a heavy downpour.
The day finally arrived and the weather was perfect and dirty for my test ride.
Once you have the knack of operating the centre-stand, it is an absolute dream to use, and makes parking a real ease and pleasure.
After a few initial wobbly circuits of the BMW dealer forecourt, (getting used to the top heavy feel), I headed out of town in the downpour.
I was fully acclimatised after approx. 12 - 15 mins and began to really enjoy 2-wheel travel as I have never done before in extreme weather.
After a full 2 1/2 hrs of city, rural and town riding, I came to the following conclusions;
The C1 was a real pleasure to ride and very manoeuverable once the initial acclimatization was complete.
During the most heavy downpour the only part of me which was wet, was about 2" of both of my elbows which where not properly shielded by the front screen.
My hands, thanks to the heated grips and bum thanks to the heated seating, remained warm and comfortable at even the most cold conditions.
Although I returned to UK before I had the chance to buy one, I intend test riding the Benelli Adiva which is a 150cc 2-seater enclosed scooter prior to making the final decision.
